About Lancaster University
Lancaster University has been named University of the Year by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018. It has also taken the top spot for Best Campus University and Best University in the North West. Its sixth-place ranking in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, as well as the winning of the coveted University of the Year award, cements its place as anleading UK university.
The growing reputation of Lancaster is reflected by high rankings year-on-year in each of the UK's major university league tables – the Guardian (9th), the Complete University Guide (9th), and The Times/Sunday Times (6th). Lancaster is ranked 135th in the QS World University Rankings 2018, and 150th in the THE (Time Higher Education) World University Rankings 2018. We were ranked 62nd in the THE Best Universities in Europe 2017, placing Lancaster among Europe's elite universities.
Lancaster University has been awarded Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2017. The TEF assessed three areas – the quality of teaching; the learning environment; and, student outcomes and learning gain – with Gold requiring evidence of outstanding provision in all three. The Gold award reflects our success in offering our students a first class experience and underlines Lancaster’s distinctiveness in the UK.
Lancaster University has been named Best University Halls in the UK at the 2017 National Student Housing Awards, earningthis accolade for the seventh time since first entering the survey in 2010. The awards is a measure of student satisfaction that compares peer institutions as well as private providers of student accommodation.. The University is one of just four higher education providers to have gained the International Accommodation Quality Mark, which recognises organisations achieving at least 90 percent satisfaction among international students.
The Lancaster Campus is a 560-acre site since 2003, over £500 million has been invested in the campus buildings, facilities and infrastructure. Our £20million sports centre offers a swimming pool, and a range of courts, pitches and 3G surfaces, while our newly refurbished library offers a wide range of workspaces.
Lancaster is the only UK University to have a presence in sub-Saharan Africa having opened a branch in Ghana, and they deliver programmes in collaboration with leading providers in China and Malaysia. Across the globe, our academic and industry partnerships help us produce excellent research that helps shape the world and tackle global issues.The 2014 REF results highlight Lancaster's reputation for research excellence at a national and international level. 83% of Lancaster’s research is internationally excellent and world leading, with 35% of our research being ‘world leading’, the highest marker of quality.
