About the University of Surrey

The University of Surrey specializes in Science, Engineering, Medicine and Business. It received its charter on 9 September 1966. This campus is just 34 minutes by train from London, and close to Heathrow and Gatwick airports. It is home to 14,000 students and around 3000 staff, who together create a friendly community. It is ranked top ten by the Guardian University Guide 2018, with 90% overall satisfaction in the National Student Survey 2016. Concerning the organization of this university, it is divided into three main faculties. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, which is composed of School of Arts, School of Economics, School of English and Languages, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, School of Law, Department of Politics, Department of Sociology, and Surrey Business School. The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences also has multiple departments namely of Chemistry, Chemical and Process Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering Sciences, Physics, and finally Centre for Environmental Strategy. The third faculty is the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, which is divided into four schools: School of Biosciences, School of Health Sciences, School of Psychology, and School of Veterinary Medicine.

All first-year students living on campus are allocated a Student Life Mentor who is on hand to provide support, help and advice. At Surrey, they offer a variety of good-quality accommodation, with a choice of several price brands, from Band A (most affordable) to Band E. Arranged in Courts of Residence (groups of self-catered housing), the campus accommodation has been carefully designed to meet the students’ needs and provide them with comfortable living space to make their own. What is also worth mentioning is the University of Surrey’s Students’ Union (USSU), which is an independent charity, led by officers who represent Surrey students. It gives students the opportunity to be active members in different activities, like events, sports clubs, and other areas. This is an easy way to find friends with similar interests.
