International House Manchester is located in the central business district of Manchester city centre. They are located just a 2 minute walk from Piccadilly Gardens centre for buses and trams and are less than a 10 minute walk to both Piccadilly and Victoria train stations. They offer a variety of programmes: individual tuition, group classes (maximum 15 people) and combination programmes.
Manchester is the Northern rival to London and is one of the most exciting and interesting cities in England.
For Accommodation: There are two options:
Homestay accommodation: All homestay hosts are carefully selected and experienced with international student care. Students come from all over the world with different cultural and ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs. Their staff and host family providers accept all of their students and welcome them unconditionally, irrespective of all these different factors.
Residential Student Accommodation: Some students prefer more independence and privacy when they live in Manchester. Self-catering residential accommodation can provide this. The residence is not managed by nor owned by IH Manchester. However, they can check availability and book this accommodation for students.
General English / Pre-sessional English
This course is designed for all students who want to improve their English. Their general English lessons follow a 5 level syllabus and our teachers will help you to improve your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English. Their teachers also try to make it fun to learn English at IH Manchester. General English Programme combines intensive English language tuition with the opportunity for you to discover Manchester life and make new friends of different nationalities.
IELTS Exam Preparation Lessons
These classes focus on exam preparation skills for IELTS and Cambridge ESOL. Their staff works on helping students to improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in order to equip them with the skills they need for all exam questions and tasks. The classes offer techniques and strategies for students to use when attempting different exam tasks to make sure they are using their time during the exam as efficiently as possible.
These classes are planned for the afternoon with Business English course books creating the structure of the lesson. Supplementary materials are also used when required. Lessons are communicative at all times and help students to develop the skills they need for their specific professional activity.
General English + Voluntary Work Experience Placement
Students on this course will study 15 hours of General English in the mornings and work in a local charity shop in the afternoons. The focus of the English classes will be communication and fluency, but there will be a mix of vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation in classes as well as lots of practice of the four skills, especially speaking.
